A camera that appears offline may have a power problem, network problem or recorder problem. Start by checking whether other cameras still work. If every camera is offline, look first at the recorder, power supply, internet router and building power instead of replacing one camera.
Confirm that the recorder is on and connected to the monitor or network. Check whether the router has internet service and whether the phone app is connected to the correct account. A local recording system can keep recording even if phone viewing is down, so separate remote viewing from camera failure.
For plug-in cameras, confirm that the outlet is active. For wired camera systems, look for a disconnected power supply, loose cable, damaged connector or PoE switch problem. Do not open electrical equipment. If a cable was recently pulled, painted over or moved, take a photo and mention it.
Call for service when the same camera remains offline after the basic checks, when the recorder shows errors, or when night images are unclear. Send a screenshot from the recorder or app, photos of the camera and recorder, and your ZIP code. That helps the technician decide whether the visit is for wiring, equipment, configuration or placement.
