A few simple checks can save a service visit or help the technician understand the problem faster. Before scheduling door, smart lock, intercom, magnetic lock or camera service, start with the basics: power, batteries, visible obstruction and whether the door itself moves freely.
For a battery smart lock, replace the batteries with the exact type recommended by the manufacturer. Avoid mixing old and new batteries. If the keypad wakes up but the bolt does not move, check whether the door is binding before assuming the electronics failed. A lock motor can struggle when the door or frame is out of alignment.
For powered equipment, confirm that the outlet or power supply is active. Check whether a breaker is off, a plug is loose or a low-voltage transformer has been disconnected. If a magnetic lock, door buzzer, intercom or camera stopped working after other work in the building, mention that timing when you call.
If a free check does not solve the problem, take clear photos of the device, the door, the frame and any power supply or control box you can safely access. Do not open high-voltage equipment. Send the photos with your ZIP code so the service request starts with useful information instead of guessing.
